The initial purchase of QuoteWerks includes 3 months
of free updates. Customers that have purchased
the Upgrade Maintenance Program (UMP) will receive
the current release of QuoteWerks, and all updates
and upgrades released during the 12 month UMP period.
The UMP is only offered in 12 month periods.
Customers are not required to purchase the
UMP. Customers can continue to use the release
of QuoteWerks they have purchased without paying any
additional costs. However, if customers wish
to receive updates that are released, they would need
to purchase the UMP at that time.
When the customer's initial 3 month period of free
updates has expired, the customer can contact First
Direct Corp directly to purchase the Update Maintenance
Program.
Update Maintenance Program Categories
There are 4 UMP price categories. The pricing
for the UMP varies based on several factors.
How many licenses you currently own. If you
have purchased update maintenance in the past.
How many months have passed since you originally purchased
QuoteWerks or purchased a significant (50%) number
of additional QuoteWerks licenses.

Category A)
From original purchase date to up to 3 months inclusive
The free updates that are included with the original
product purchase expire after 3 months. If the customer
purchases the UMP during this 3 month time frame,
the price will be 20% of the list price of
the current number of QuoteWerks licenses.
In summary, if the customer purchases
the UMP during this period the customer will receive
all updates for 12 months beginning when the initial
3 month period of free updates expires.|
- Category B) From 3 months
+ 1 day up to 12 months inclusive from the original
purchase
If the customer purchases the UMP during this time
frame, the price will be 35% of the list price
of the current number of QuoteWerks licenses.
The customer will receive the current QuoteWerks update
and 12 months of updates starting on the purchase
date of the UMP.
In summary, if the customer purchases
the UMP during the 91 days to 12 month inclusive
period after the original product purchase date
(OPPD), the customer will receive all updates prior
to the UMP purchase and 12 additional months of
updates beginning on the purchase date of the UMP.
In a best case example, if the customer purchases
a Category B UMP 12 months after the original product
purchase date, the customer will in effect receive
a total of 24 months of updates.

Category C) From 12 months
+ 1 day to 24 months inclusive from the original
purchase
If the customer purchases the UMP during this time
frame, the price will be 50% of the list
price of the current number of QuoteWerks licenses.
The customer will receive the current QuoteWerks
update and 12 months of updates starting on the
purchase date of the UMP.
In summary, if the customer purchases
the UMP during the 12 months + 1 day to 24 months
inclusive period after the original product purchase
date (OPPD), the customer will receive all updates
prior to the UMP purchase and 12 additional months
of updates beginning on the purchase date of the
UMP. In a best case example, if the customer
purchases a Category C UMP 24 months after the original
product purchase date, the customer will in effect
receive a total of 36 months of updates.

Category D)
Greater than 24 months from the original purchase
If the customer purchases the UMP during this time
frame, the price will be 65% of the list
price of the current number of QuoteWerks licenses.
The customer will receive the current QuoteWerks
update and 12 months of updates starting on the
purchase date of the UMP.
In summary, if the customer purchases the UMP 24
months + 1 day after the original product purchase
date (OPPD), the customer will receive all updates
prior to the UMP purchase and 12 additional months
of updates beginning on the purchase date of the
UMP. At a minimum, if the customer
purchases a Category D UMP 24 months + 1 day after
the original product purchase date, the customer
will in effect receive a total of 36 months of updates.
Options available when an
Update Maintenance Program period expires
For customers that purchase the UMP for
the second or more times, the UMP prices will follow
the same concepts as Category A through Category
D UMP pricing with the exception that the reference
date is now the expiration date of the previously
purchased UMP. Additionally, to qualify for
Level A UMP pricing, the Level A UMP must be purchased
within 30 days of the expiration of the previously
purchased UMP.
There is a specific situation where customers can
receive updates without purchasing the UMP.
If at any time the customer purchases 50% or more
additional licenses than their current number of licenses,
they will be entitled to the current update for all
the licenses that they own. The 50% additional
licenses must be purchased all in one transaction.
As an example, if a customer purchases a 10 user license,
does not purchase UMP for 12 months, and then purchases
an additional 5 user license, the customer will receive
the current update for all 15 licenses. Additionally,
when the customer makes a 50% additional license purchase,
they will have the option to purchase a Category A
UMP if they purchase the UMP within 30 days of their
additional license purchase.
Update and Upgrade fulfillment
Updates and upgrades are made available for download
from manufactures website. Includes the updated
software only. No additional voice support or physical
update material is included. Current user
manuals and cd-roms can be purchased at additional
cost.
Updates for accounting links
and real-time links
If you purchased any of the QuoteWerks Accounting
links or Real-time web pricing and availability
modules, there is no separate UMP charge for these
modules. Updates to these modules are included with
the updates to the main QuoteWerks product licenses.
Once your free updates period has expired,
and further updates are not available for free,
a question is raised....
What about bugs? A bug is a generic term used
when software does not work as it was designed to
work. The nature of software development dictates
that every time you make changes to software there
is a chance that a bug will be introduced. Since
we are constantly enhancing QuoteWerks (which greatly
benefits our customers), there is a chance that
each time we enhance it, we can inadvertently introduce
a new bug. This is unfortunately the single
side effect of the process that has so many positive
results. The positive aspects of updating
QuoteWerks so often is that the new features developed
to meet the ever changing demands of customers become
available to these customers so quickly that they
can begin experiencing the benefits of the improved
performance and efficiency in the product without
having to wait years for such updates (following
a traditional model).
Aspire Technologies, Inc. will provide you with
a fix to any bug reported within 60 days of your
initial purchase of QuoteWerks 3.0. The idea being
that if you do not notice the bug during the 60
day period, it must be a minor bug that does not
cause you much of an inconvenience. If you think
you found a bug, we encourage you to email us a
description of the alleged bug. This will document
your claim of the alleged bug.

Update Maintenance Program a good deal?
Users sometimes object to paying for updates.
The reason for this objection is usually based on
the user's experience with other software products
releasing updates that have very few new useful
features with a big sticker price slapped on them.
QuoteWerks updates shatter the traditional
definition of what an update contains and how much
it costs.
We created our Update Maintenance Program programs
not to squeeze money out of our customers in return
for nothing, but rather for us to receive funds
for the new major features that we are adding to
the product almost every month. Other companies
simply don't offer all the new features so rapidly,
and make their users wait for 2 years until the
next version is released. We chose the Update Maintenance
Program route so that we can offer these new features
to our customers as quickly as possible.
In fact, as of 1/2/2003, QuoteWerks 3.0 has been
shipping for 39 months, and during that period,
we have released 26 updates packed with new features
that our users have been able to benefit from during
the 39 months.
As part of our updates philosophy,
we strongly disagree with forcing customers to pay
annual maintenance on a software product when they
may not need or want the new features. So, with
the QuoteWerks Update Maintenance Program, you only
purchase the Update Maintenance Program when you
feel the new features included in the update is
worth paying for. Customers that do always want
to have access to all our updates and upgrades every
month, will be able to receive them for a low price
of 20% per 12 month period.
How often are updates made available?
There is no set time frame, but Asprire Technologies
will make changes to QuoteWerks almost every day.
On average they release 2-3 updates within a 6 month
period. Each update usually includes around 30 changes.
